Think a calculator got something wrong?

Reports like this are the most useful thing you can send. To let me reproduce the problem, include:

• the calculator's address (for example /mortgage-calculator/);
• every value you typed in, exactly as entered, including the term, rate and any optional fields;
• the result you got, and the result you expected and where that number came from — a lender's quote, a spreadsheet, the IRS tables, or another calculator.

Small differences against a bank or lender figure are often not errors: lenders may round each monthly payment, add fees, escrow, PMI or insurance to the quoted payment, or calculate interest slightly differently. Tax calculators use the published brackets and limits for the tax year shown on the page. If a rule or limit has changed — a new contribution limit or tax bracket for the coming year — please tell me and point to the source so the calculator and its guide can be updated.

I can explain how a calculator works and which formula or source it uses, but I can't give personal financial, tax or investment advice or tell you which product to choose. For decisions about your own situation, speak to a licensed professional. Please don't send account numbers, Social Security numbers or other sensitive personal information by email.
